Lack of fame and wealth, Qian Zhongshu
In his later years, Qian Zhongshu closed the door to thank visitors and concentrate on learning. A foreign journalist once said that he had two wishes to come to China: to see the Great Wall and to read Qian Zhongshu. He regards Qian Zhongshu as a symbol of Chinese culture. Another foreign journalist wanted to interview Qian Zhongshu because he had read Qian Zhongshu's Fortress Besieged. Qian Zhongshu refused an interview on the phone: "If you feel good about eating an egg, why do you need to know the egg laying hen?" He also refused an interview with CCTV's "Son of the East". Mr. Qian is also a great man in morality. During the Cultural Revolution, Jiang Qing was invited to a state banquet in the Great Hall of the People. Mr. Qian said: Oh! Oh! I don't go! The visitor said: Well, may I say that Mr. Qian is not feeling well these two days? "No! No! " Mr. Qian said, "I am in good health!"
